High precision in assembly and painting makes the models unique pieces with collector potential.++++The BMW i8: From vision to icon, from bestseller to classic of the future.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n

Munich.<\/span><\/span> As the BMW Group’s first plug-in hybrid model, the BMW i8 has become the world’s most successful sports car with an electrified drive system and has already secured its place in the automotive hall of fame.<\/span><\/span> It laid the foundation for the now extensive range of plug-in hybrids.<\/span><\/span> At the same time, its futuristic and innovative design has garnered it countless awards from all the leading automotive magazines, including the Engine of the Year Award five times in a row.<\/span><\/span> Now, the last 18 BMW i8 Roadsters (combined fuel consumption: 2.0 l\/100 km, combined electric power consumption: 14.5 kWh\/100 km, combined CO2 emissions: 46 g\/km) have been handed over to customers at BMW Welt: all individually configured to customer specifications and in colors never before seen on the exterior of the BMW i8: Austin Yellow, British Racing Green, Le Mans Blue, and Aventurine Red.<\/span><\/span> The interior ranges from Alcantara upholstery on the seats and steering wheels to individual trim strips and panels.<\/span><\/span> The last 18 \u2013 numbered and personally assigned.<\/span><\/span> This high degree of individualization was a challenge for everyone involved in the process.<\/span><\/span> Each model is unique, made into a one-of-a-kind collector’s item through incredibly precise assembly and painting.<\/span><\/span> The production of a BMW i8, due to its vehicle concept, drive technology, and unique material mix of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) and aluminum, was already considered a masterpiece of modern automotive engineering.<\/span><\/span> Many of the new owners of these exclusive, electrified two-seaters are members of the BMW i8 Club.<\/span><\/span> Members from four nations, including former Z8 drivers, founded the BMW i8 Club in July 2014, even before the first BMW i8 was delivered.<\/span><\/span> Following the handover, the last 18 BMW i8s embarked on their first tour of the Chiemgau region in a convoy.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
