July 10-15, 2024: 10 Years of the BMW i8 Club
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the BMW i8 Club e.V., a very special event was on the agenda. On July 11, a guided tour of BMW Motorworld in Munich offered many fascinating insights. Among other things, we saw the i8 prototype exhibited at the 2013 IAA, the BMW i8 Safety Car used in Formula E, and a prototype of the Z8 Coupe. We also had the opportunity to test drive selected BMW vehicles.
In the afternoon, we were treated to a presentation of the brand-new BMW M5 as part of a closed-room event. Later, at a joint dinner at the Waca Restaurant, various speakers and guests of honor shared exciting anecdotes and experiences related to the i8 and its development. The great dedication of long-time club president Claus-Dieter Bachmann was also recognized.
We departed for Austria on July 12. The scenic route to Irdning and the Schlosshotel Pichlarn was only slightly marred by a few afternoon showers, which, however, did nothing to dampen the “joy of driving.”
July 13th was dedicated entirely to ALPINA. Our member Andreas Bovensiepen offered us the opportunity to test drive various ALPINA vehicles and presented his ALPINA i8 concept car with a 4-cylinder combustion engine, which—much to the regret of many members—unfortunately never made it into regular production. In the afternoon, under brilliant sunshine, we returned to our own i8s for a tour through Styria. Upon our return, we enjoyed a private wine tasting in the evening, led by Andreas Bovensiepen, who presented us with some of his exclusive wine specialties.
On July 14th… Then came an extensive tour through the picturesque Ausseerland region, with several stops at scenic viewpoints, before this magnificent event culminated in a gala dinner.
